The-Emissary-Cover

For hundreds of years, dark clouds covered the skies of Adamah, and an ageless king ruled. Those who emerged with one of six extraordinary Shay powers were forced into the king’s army, an unmatched force with inhuman Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Perception, Empathy, and Healing. With the army at his side, the king—a man who wields all six abilities—was invincible and unquestioned in his rule. To most, serving the king was an honor. And for some, it was a fate worse than death.

When seventeen-year-old Nolan Trividar witnesses the transformation of his brother from kind to cruel after entering the king’s army, he vows never to follow the same path. So when his own power—the Shay of Accuracy—comes upon him at the Tournament of Awakening, Nolan conceals his emergence instead of joining the king’s ranks. For years, he traitorously hides his power, pretending to be a gifted scribe. But when Nolan comes face-to-face with a deserter, the man discovers his secret. To evade detection and a death sentence, Nolan escapes with the deserter and flees into a night filled with dark creatures who steal both powers and souls.

Nolan joins a resistance, a village hidden deep in the forest, filled with others who secretly wield a Shay. But his peace is short lived when they discover that the dark clouds, the undead creatures, their own decreasing powers, and even the king, are all connected.

WHAT READER’S ARE SAYING:

Horror Business is, more than anything, an old-school horror story, digging deep into King’s meticulous nostalgia, processed through the postmodernism ofScream, filtered at turns through the nerdiness of Dawson’s Creek and Super 8, and then drenched in the blackness of a teenage boy’s brain.” – Keith McLeary, Author

“What the author really captures here is not just a skin-crawling tale of monsters. He shows us where the real horror lies, in the awkward development of children into teens, the fearful uncertainty.”Matt E. Lewis, The Radvocate

“Horror Business combines intelligence and entertainment into a particularly creepy read.” – Jennifer Bardsley, Author

Book Review: Dreamer by Phillip L. Davidson

You can purchase this book from Amazon

Synopsis

Is the Dreamer good or evil? As war looms between Britain and Argentina over the barren Falkland Islands, Major David Elliott is having nightmares. Long ago, in a dark jungle near Cambodia, he failed to do his duty. That duty was to execute a member of his team. David s weakness eventually led to his team s capture. Tortured by the Viet Cong, they revealed the dark secrets of the CIA s Phoenix program. Forced to leave the service in disgrace, his men now live in the darkness . What do the dreams mean for them? David s wife, Sonia, sees them as harbingers of evil things to come. A revolutionary in Argentina before the war, she escaped to America and became a citizen. Now, Captain Alvarez, head of the Argentine Secret Police, wants her back. He devises a plan that lures her into returning to Argentina where she is imprisoned on Los Estados Island. Meanwhile, a mystical creature has summoned David and his former team to gather once more to honor the covenant, a pact they made with each other when they believed their lives were coming to an end. Together, with an errant priest, Father Perez, they reluctantly agree to assault Los Estados and free Sonia. As they travel across Mexico, Central and South America, they encounter the CIA, Contras in Nicaragua, the M-19 narco terrorist group and the United States Navy; while all along being shadowed by the mystical entity. Is the entity God or Satan? Will submitting to the will of the entity allow David and his men to stand in the light of men once again? Is the Dreamer good or evil? You decide.

“Dreamer” is a tale of redemption, honor, courage, belief in God and betrayal!

My Review

Dreamer  by Phillip Davidson

Dreamer is definitely an interesting book. It is more of a military, mercenary type story. I have read thrillers, and this book to seem to be more of a war story.  The story is broken up in three parts, the first part was really confusing to me, I wasn’t even sure if I would finish the book.   I had a very hard time figuring what time period they were talking about. There was flash back to Vietnam and then to the 80’s and maybe present day, not sure on that. I think most of it was centered on the 80s.

I won’t go into detail on the story as you can read it in the synopsis. But basically a story of a Man whose wife is Kidnapped and how it is put together to get her back. There is plenty of adventure and mystical things happening.  Some parts were easy to follow and others were not so easy. Even the ending was good, I think, it left me still not knowing for sure how it ended.

I am glad I read it, and gave a look into a different world, being the military and what happens. If you like Military, war, and adventure this book is for you.
