MARRIAGE UNDER FIRE
The Grayce Walters Series #4
Jacki Delecki
Released Sept 12th, 2015

Maddy Jeffers has never failed as a Marine, but she is about to face the ultimate challenge of her career. Ordered to infiltrate a Seattle terrorist cell, she must go undercover married to Hunter Hines. The terrorist cell might not intimidate the seasoned soldier, but pretending to be a wife to the rugged, macho Marine just might be the most demanding and daunting mission she’s faced.

Hunter, a career Marine, has devoted his life to duty and discipline. Yet being in constant proximity with the beguiling blond Maddy, is making it impossible to fight his need for his pretend wife. When Maddy’s life is threatened, protecting her becomes the only mission that matters. And Hunter will break all the rules to save her.

As the danger heats up around these two veteran heroes, they discover their shared bonds of love and duty.

Maddy Jeffers always chose daring over caution.

With her pelvis thrust forward by her three-inch, knockoff designer heels, she countered her absurd posture by throwing back her shoulders. Since she was on the carpet, she might as well make it a Hollywood red carpet. Placing each foot very firmly and carefully, she managed to avoid teetering and made her way down the silent, sterile hallway of Seattle’s Henry Jackson Federal Building. The gunmetal gray walls and the Pine-Sol smell of a moldering, uncaring bureaucracy took her right back to her years as a foster child—in another government building, her future in question again.

Instructed to report out of uniform, she had been in a major quandary. Should she arrive dressed as the ecoterrorist she’d been posing as during her last undercover assignment to make it easier for them to reprimand her? Or should she look like any other office worker?

Major Hunter Hines, her partner on the assignment, had texted her to report at 20:00 to JFB.

The man could have given her a heads-up about what she faced; Marines took care of their own. Of course, Major Hunter Hines wouldn’t allow anything like human emotions or the dangers of that particular assignment to affect his report.

Speak of the devil, there was Hunter, waiting in front of the glass door to the FBI office. She surreptitiously dried her sweaty palms on her tight black dress and added a swagger to her slow, agonizing walk. No way would she admit, even under the threat of torture, that her killer shoes were killing her.

“… in the meantime, a credible report caused all ecclesiastics of the Catholic Church to lament and weep.” Prudentius of Troyes, Annales Bertiniani, anno 839

On Ascension Day May 22, 838, Bishop Bodo, chaplain, confessor, and favorite of both his kin, Emperor Louis the Pious, son of Charlemagne, and Empress Judith, caused the greatest scandal of the Carolingian Empire and the 9th century Roman Church.

Bodo, the novel, dramatizes the causes, motivations, and aftermath of Bodo’s astonishing cause célèbre that took place during an age of superstitions, a confused Roman Church, heterodoxies, lingering paganism, broken oaths, rebellions, and dissolution of the Carolingian Empire.

PRAISE

“In a masterfully controlled narrative, Platt builds up to this amazing moment, taking readers first through Bodo’s childhood, upbringing, and rise to power at the heart of the 9th century Carolingian Empire, whose kings, princes, prelates and ordinary people Platt captures with a pitch-perfect blend of research and dramatization. By the time the story winds its way to Bodo’s momentous decision, I, too, felt like everything in the world was on the line. A fantastic, thought-provoking novel; very enthusiastically recommended.” – Historical Novel Society (Editor’s Choice Pick)

SIT! STAY! SPEAK!
A Novel
Annie England Noblin
Released Sept 9th, 2015

Echoing the novels of Mary Alice Monroe, Allie Larkin, and Holly Robinson, this charming debut novel tells the unforgettable story of a rescue dog that helps a struggling young outsider make peace with the past.

Addie Andrews is living a life interrupted. Tragedy sent her fleeing from Chicago to the shelter of an unexpected inheritance—her beloved aunt’s somewhat dilapidated home in Eunice, Arkansas, population very tiny. There she reconnects with some of her most cherished childhood memories. If only they didn’t make her feel so much!

People say nothing happens in small towns, but Addie quickly learns better. She’s got an elderly next door neighbor who perplexingly dances outside in his underwear, a house needing more work than she has money, a best friend whose son uncannily predicts the weather, and a local drug dealer holding a massive grudge against her.

Most surprising of all, she’s got a dog. But not any dog, but a bedraggled puppy she discovered abandoned, lost, and in desperate need of love. Kind of like Addie herself. She’d come to Eunice hoping to hide from the world, but soon she discovers that perhaps she’s finding the way back—to living, laughing, and loving once more.

Excerpt-Banner

She sighed and pushed her blond hair off her neck, piling it high on top of her head. Her thoughts went back to Chicago. To Jonah. To what life had been like before she’d inherited a house that needed more work than she had money. Jonah would have liked this house, she thought. Addie knew that if he were here, they would have stayed in town after the funeral. Jonah would have picked through each piece of furniture, each knickknack. He would have asked for stories about each one, stories Addie had long forgotten.

She rested her head against the coffee table. It had a glass top, something her aunt had brought all the way down here from Chicago. It wasn’t worth much, as far as Addie could tell, but her aunt loved it and stuck cards from relatives underneath the glass. Each time Aunt Tilda had a visitor, she’d tell them about whichever relative happened to be resting underneath that visitor’s coffee mug. Today there was no coffee, and there were no visitors. There was no Jonah. Addie let her hair fall back down onto her sticky neck and said out loud to no one, “I’ve got to get out of here for a while.”

The Mississippi River in Eunice, Arkansas, looked nothing like it had when she’d crossed the bridge in Memphis. It was smaller, tranquil almost. Addie stood with her toes touching the water. She hadn’t been down to the levee since the last time she’d visited Eunice. Even this close to the water, it was hot outside. She found herself wishing she’d just stayed inside with all the unopened boxes and dusty furniture—at least there was air-conditioning.

Gazing around, Addie realized that this was no longer the nice, clean picnic area that her aunt had taken her to during her childhood visits. The tables were overgrown with weeds, and there was an obvious odor of trash in the air. This place hadn’t been taken care of in a long time.

Addie bent down to wash out her flip-flops when she heard a noise coming from behind her. She turned around to face a small wooded area. The noise grew louder. It sounded like a whimpering, but all she saw were bushes. She shoved her feet into her shoes and walked over to the direction of the noise. She pushed her way into the first set of bushes, where a thin layer of trash covered the ground. Off to one side there was a large, black trash bag.

The trash bag was moving. Addie crept closer to the bag. She bent down and touched the plastic. It had been tied in a tight knot. Digging her fingers into the plastic, Addie ripped the bag wide open. The object in the bag stirred, whimpering slightly. It lifted its head and tried to move, but failed. It was covered in blood and blood-soaked newspaper and dozens of crumpled packages of Marlboro Reds.

Addie was looking at a dog.

Good lovin’ is easy…But true happiness is harder to find…

To anyone on the outside looking in through the door of Cyndarella Worthy’s life, it looks like she’s got it all. At thirty-two, she’s beautiful and successful, with a handsome brother lover, Thad Mitchell. But deep in her heart, she holds a candle for Bashar Bazzi, the Chaldean immigrant she loved ten years ago. Bashar left for Iraq and she never saw him again, and she assumes he made a marriage within his own community without a backward glance.

Cyn’s girlfriends, Tavie, Denise and Vette, know that their sister still carries the scars of Bashar, but they pray she’ll find love and peace with Thad. Anyway, they’ve got issues too: Tavie’s dating smart school principal, Mack Dooley, but she can’t escape the rumors that he’s playing around; Denise’s marriage to Sean is under pressure because she hasn’t conceived a second child; Vette’s dating an older guy, Louis Burns, but wonders if she’ll ever get a ring on her finger.

When Thad proposes to Cyn and she accepts, it looks like this sister’s finally on her way to true happiness. But no sooner are the celebrations done, when there’s trouble—Bashar Bazzi is home, and he’s ready to settle his unfinished business with Cyn…

The passionate, powerful heart-breaking prequel to Betrayal’s Dust by Vina St Fran.

excerpt

Chapter One

There are men who speak about their penis as if it is an extended member of their family. They damn near burst out of their pants to make the introduction. The thing they fail to realize is that, for most women, inches can’t compensate for character or a man’s worth.

Cyndarella Worthy’s mama always told her how to behave like a lady throughout much of her life. Except when it came to the subject of men. Perhaps had they had such conversations, it would have spared Cyn the consequential heartache she racked up in dating deadbeats.

Hell, Cyn pouted, most women don’t realize they’re dating a f*******’ loser until each layer is peeled back piece by piece like an onion. So much so, it ends up making everything around you tear.

First of all, you got to check off the outer layer. Of course he’s dangerously fine, like Terrance Howard. All the way down to that little smirk of a smile on his face that initially drives you wild. This is a man that any mother would pray her daughter would bring home. A well groomed professional man with the material trimmings that would make most women’s hearts swoon, and let’s not neglect to mention that big fat bank account.

Accompanying this package are the big boy-toys, you know, the E-Class Mercedes Benz, and perhaps a Hummer or some other luxury SUV parked next to the Benz in his three-car garage. And, imagine, there is an empty spot waiting he’s been saving just for you! He’s a go-getter on the fast track career-wise. Heck, there ain’t anything sexier than a man on a mission!

Three months have passed and by now you’ve discovered the middle layer. Your potential Mr. Right is charming, blends into most social settings and loves to shower you with affection. And yes, you’ve hit the sheets with him to find he is equipped with a substantial-sized tool to drill you deep in the wee hours of the night.

Women lie when they say size don’t matter, Cyn reasoned.

In her clinical experience, Cyn found f****** men with little dicks required much more work in order for her to achieve an orgasm. God forbid if they suffered from premature ejaculation! For her it wasn’t an option she desired to explore.

Getting to the inner layer some six months later, you find that things aren’t quite working out. Mr. Right has fast become Mr. Wrong. He starts calling you less and making excuses why he’s unavailable. And when you are together, his cell phone rings all through the night, and he can’t seem to keep his lies straight as to who’s on the other end of the phone. It is then you realize the object of your affection has started to show his ass and, of course, it’s all because he thinks things are moving way too fast. He needs time to sort things out. Bottom line is, Mr. Lover Man isn’t ready to commit and has moved on to his next conquest.

Examining herself, at thirty-two, Cyn was striking in appearance. Yet, she was further from the altar than she’d ever been. Not only that, Cyn had what she called the five Bs: bank, beauty, boobs, booty and brains. And the fact she hadn’t become a member of the single mothers’ club made her stick her chest out even more. But wouldn’t you know, some people viewed her as selfish because of this? That was their problem, not hers.

Thad Mitchell, Cyn’s latest flame, was a bit different from the usual targets she dated. He was divorced with a four-year-old daughter. Normally, Cyn didn’t do men with baby mommas because she hated the drama that went along with it. Too many of her girlfriends had suffered just because they made the mistake of falling in love with a man who had dependents. Despite their good intentions, some men never truly, completely made a clean break.

It just so happened Cyn lucked out, because Thad’s ex got remarried overseas to a fellow naval officer, so Thad rarely got weekend visits. It was more of a long- distance phone relationship. Heather, his ex, was great about sending family videos and photos. Thad visited twice a year, which Cyn encouraged because she sure as hell didn’t want anything getting in the middle of quality time with her man, namely him drowning his sorrows because he missed his little girl.

At eight months old, the relationship was still quite fresh and Thad agreed to something most men couldn’t seem to follow through on: courtship. That was the one stipulation Cyn had before she’d accept a single date with a man. And if he wasn’t consistent, forget about it! Three months into their courtship, Thad hadn’t failed her. With a demanding high profile career, Cyn rarely had time for anything more than an occasional fling every now and then. Not that she minded variety at all, but she had to admit, her favorite slogan, ‘A few good men’, was starting to get stale.

Thad was eye candy at its finest. At 6’ 5”, weighing in around 280 pounds, his body was definitely lean and mean. He had fair skin and a strong jaw line, accompanied by keen facial features that appeared like they had been chiseled into place. The thought alone of staring up into Thad’s piercing hazel eyes made her ache to be with him. And being with him felt right. She was satisfied with the way they were progressing. She kept her fingers crossed that they would stay that way.

Praise

Lacey Smalton, Reviewer from the Midwest Book Review, Reviewers Choice, March 2015 edition wrote:

I am not a fan of most debut novels in which I have reviewed. I must warn you in advance that this is not the typical cookie-cutter Contemporary Romance novel you may currently find yourself reading! This is the 1st book installment of a trilogy. One Foot Outside The Door is a story about Cyndarella Worthy, a vibrant and beautiful African-American woman and her three best friends from childhood. They face the trials and tribulations of life, love, and romance, but not without angst. Cyndarella, the heroine of the story is successful in every area of her life, except in the love department, but her luck changes after a whirlwind relationship with Thad Mitchell, a handsome, African-American accountant in that she agrees to marry. However, Cyn’s ex-boyfriend, Bashar Bazzi, a Chaldean gentleman of Iraqi descent returns and has other ideas about her new-found pending marital status. This book delves into the heartbreaking arena of the intense scrutiny and misconceptions involved in interracial dating. Yet, it embraces those struggles with such realism, grit and honesty, that this is truly a refreshing read from this new author.

There is a true love story which unfolds here that entertains as well as educates. The storytelling is solid, focused, and downright unpredictable! The supporting cast of characters each with their own distinctive flavoring makes this a must-read book that I would highly recommend. The sex scenes are sensual, passionate, and SO frigging good because they reel you in with each scene from beginning to end. Hotness at the highest level! It is a game-changer! Can’t wait to read the next installment!”

Meet the Author

VinaMarch5-65Hi. I’m Vina St. Fran, a Michigan native and I write contemporary romance stories for a mature audience. I am also Political Contributor for Examiner.com, which is an online news publication.

Let me expound upon what drives me to write as an author. I like creating stories about powerful, kick-ass women who make it happen in the boardroom and the bedroom without apologies. You will find my novels may contain characters of different ethnic backgrounds who add spice to the plot, and makes for interesting reading.

My female heroines are confident and charismatic, yet they are vulnerable when it comes to matters of the heart. The realism is heartfelt, for to love is to risk. They find certain situations push them to the brink of despair, yet in the middle of it all they manage to enjoy amazing, fulfilling sex lives with their significant others, which is thrilling and downright erotic. The end result is that the characters mature, and develop into stronger women.

Synopsis

Return to Christmas beautifully blends the two struggling worlds of a former marine and a little boy with attachment disorder. Former Marine Chet is having a hard time adjusting to civilian life. He doesn’t need help. He needs employment. He doesn’t have issues. The little boy his friends adopted has issues. But there is something about that little boy that draws him. Will the events leading up to this Christmas be able to melt his soldier heart or will he spiral into a dark depression?

My Review

Return to Christmas by Kathy Macias is a story that touched my heart. I immediately fell in love with both families in this story. The first with Chet, who is a former Marine and has done two tours in Afghanistan and seen more there than anyone should. His wife Jeneen who loves him deeply and their 3 year old son Kevin. When Chet decide to leave the Marines he had a hard time dealing with being home and trying to find work and also the issues going on in his head. His wife had to take on a full time job and there 3 year old son had to go to preschool while she worked. Chet did do some odd jobs when he could find work, but that didn’t happened as often.   Jeneen kept her faith in God and kept going to church and praying even though Chet didn’t want to participate.  I really loved how the author incorporated prayer and the bible. I loved that she kept her faith and depend on God to help her through and not to destroy their marriage.

Breanne is the owner of the preschool that Kevin goes to was also dealing with their own family problems, her and her husband Steve adopted a little boy Ryan, who is now also 3, he has attachment disorder. Breanne and her husband believe in God and ask for his help and know they are meant to be Ryan’s parents. I also love the way the writer developed these characters and made them also very interesting.

I find it interesting how they all end up together, and with having faith also helps.  I also thought this was a good story and a great topic, could have been developed more on the topic but this is a good start and also shows that having faith and to keep trying and it can work. This story also gave me goose bumps, I felt it is well written and also reminds of the reason for the season. This is a clean story, shows strong and courageous men and women that are determined to overcome their difficulties that life hands out.  For me a lot of emotions came to my mind. I am glad I was able to read this story.

I definitely give this book five stars.
