by Siobhan Davis
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age category: Upper Young Adult
Release Date: January 9, 2017

Blurb:
Two fractured hearts and a forbidden love they can’t deny.

You shouldn’t want what you can’t have…

Faye Donovan has lost everything. After her parent’s tragic death, she’s whisked away from her home in Ireland when an unknown uncle surfaces as her new guardian.

Dropped smack-dab into the All-American dream, Faye should feel grateful. Except living with her wealthy uncle, his fashion-empire-owning wife, and their seven screwed-up sons is quickly turning into a nightmare—especially when certain inappropriate feelings arise.

Kyler Kennedy makes her head hurt and her heart race, but he’s her cousin.

He’s off limits.

And he’s not exactly welcoming—Kyler is ignorant, moody, and downright cruel—but Faye sees behind the mask he wears, recognizing a kindred spirit.

Kyler has sworn off girls, yet Faye gets under his skin. The more he pushes her away, the more he’s drawn to her, but acting on those feelings risks a crap-ton of prejudice, and any whiff of scandal could damage the precious Kennedy brand.

Concealing their feelings seems like the only choice.

But when everyone has something to hide, a secret is a very dangerous thing.

Finding Kyler Teaser One Kyler

Excerpt:
Their obscene wealth intimidates me.
Not the people.
The money.
The driver opens my uncle’s door first before attending to mine. James doesn’t make any move to exit. He looks contemplative. “I hope you’ll be happy here, Faye. Truly, I do.”
“Thank you. Me, too.” I hop out of the car as the driver retrieves my suitcase from the boot.
A splash of color in the corner of the garage captures my attention. Three racing motorbikes rest on an elevated platform. One is orange and blue and there is a multitude of brand logos on the side. The other two bikes are no less impressive. One is painted in a dark shade of green, the other bright yellow. A myriad of similar stickers decorates the side panels. I’m inexplicably drawn to them, and my feet move of their own accord.
Reaching out, I run the tip of my finger along the bodywork and up and down the wheels, my fingers dipping into the grooves in the tires. I can almost feel the enhanced adrenaline in the air. Motorbikes have always excited me, and the pure rush I’m getting is sending tingles of anticipation ricocheting all over my body.
I’m so entranced that I barely register the sound of approaching footsteps.
“Get your hands off my bike.” The deep male cadence verges on a predatory growl. The possessive quality to his voice isn’t lost on me either.
Giant goose bumps sprout on my arms, but I smother my fear and lift my head up in a confident manner. A red flush creeps up my chest and over my neck as a devastatingly good-looking boy reaches my side.
I’m tall—for a girl—and I’m usually pretty much on the level with most guys, but the top of my head barely reaches this dude’s chin, so he’s got to be at least six-two to my five-nine.
His body exudes warmth like a weapon. It crashes into me, almost knocking me off my feet. Slowly, my eyes travel up his body, taking in every ripped, lean, taut inch of him. He’s wearing dark navy jeans and a plain white shirt that’s molded to his perfectly chiseled abs like it’s painted on. I gulp.
They sure don’t grow them like this in Ireland.
My eyes continue their journey, up beyond the inviting, exposed strip of skin at the top of his shirt, and note voluptuous lips that are pinched tight, the light layer of dark stubble on his sculpted chin and cheeks, and the tan, smooth lines of his handsome face. I brace myself, rocking back on my heels, as I stare into stunning pale blue eyes. Framed by a thick layer of inky-black lashes most girls would kill for, his eyes are vast pools that I could easily drown in.
This guy is seriously good-looking, and he knows it, too. Crossing his arms over his chest, he pins me with a venomous look, and I shrink back from the dangerous vibes he’s emitting.
“Are you done drooling yet?”

Nevertheless her parents refuse to see his flaws, and she’s going to a secret English school for the descendants of famous detectives whether she likes it or not.

When Amanda arrives at the dreaded school, she considers running away – until she and her new friends discover blood and weird pink substances in odd places. At first they’re not sure whether these oddities mean anything, but when Amanda’s father disappears and the cook is found dead with her head in a bag of sugar, they’re certain that crimes are taking place.

Now Amanda must embrace her destiny and uncover the truth. The only snag is that arch-villain Blixus Moriarty, a descendant of Holmes’s nemesis Professor James Moriarty, might be involved, and he doesn’t like nosy little girls interfering in his business.

So You Want to Make an Audiobook, Post 4: The Producer

The Amanda Lester, Detective Odyssey with Paula Berinstein

When last I left you we were discussing whether or not to do a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds for my project. Considering how much work was involved I was less than enthusiastic. But in order to make the decision I needed more information: how much would producing the book actually cost? The narrator is only part of it. You also need a producer.

I wasn’t sure how to go about finding a producer so I asked Allan Corduner’s agent if there was someone he normally used. Yes, she said: Strathmore Publishing in London. They furnish the studio, producers, editors, the whole deal. And so I contacted them.

The man I spoke with, Nic Jones, the founder of the studio, was so nice and helpful I couldn’t wait to get started. There was just one tiny thing, though, and that was a price. And so I spoke with Elspeth McPherson, the production director.

She too was as nice as pie and wanted to know how long my book was, in words, not pages. Nearly 103,000 I told her. The next thing I knew she had come up with a cost based on twelve finished hours, which was what both she and Allan thought it would take. (The actual recording time is usually about twice that.) The cost came to a fair chunk of change, but it included the studio, producer, editor, and check listener as well as formatting and delivery of the final files in two formats.

By now of course I just had to do it. I had fallen in love with Allan’s voice work and Strathmore and nothing this side of the moon would stop me. The risks associated with the Kickstarter campaign worried me. Allan might be the best voice actor in the world but he isn’t a household name. What if people didn’t want to participate? What if they weren’t so hot on Amanda? I’d look like an idiot, embarrass everyone concerned, and just generally fail. And I was not going to let that happen.

Here’s the deal though. I am extremely fortunate. I have enough resources of my own to finance a lot of what I do, and a husband who supports my writing. After discussing the situation for about a minute, we decided to forget the labor-intensive minefield of Kickstarter and just do it. I wrote back to Allan’s agent and Strathmore and told them I wanted to go ahead.

And then it was time to get down to work.

To find out what that work consisted of, please join me tomorrow.

Excerpt From Saven Deception:
“Come, sit,” he says, his fingers curling gently around the tips of mine.
I plop down on the beanbag beside him and yelp.
“You are hurt.” He frowns. “Let me take a look.”
He scrunches the edge of my shirt, but I clamp down on his hand. There’s no way I’m admitting that it’s my butt that’s sore, and no way am I ready to let him inspect that part of my anatomy. Yet.
Get you, my inner devil teases.
“I’m fine.” I pin him with a “drop it” look.
“You are so stubborn.” Shaking his head, he unscrews the cap from his bottle.
“I’m stubborn?” I level an incredulous look his way. “Have you not looked in the mirror recently, dude?”
He laughs and the sound sends warmth flooding through me.
“You’ve a lovely laugh,” I blurt out. Ohmigod! I can’t believe I said something so cheesy.
“I do?” He looks amused.
“Yep.” I’m resorting to one-word replies now for fear of what else might inadvertently tumble out of my mouth.
He stares intently at me, his fiery eyes penetrating my soul. The cord buzzes with anticipation. I might’ve forgotten how to breathe again. “You are beautiful, through and through.”
With each passing second, my heart pounds faster and faster. He inclines toward me and I move closer. Butterflies are throwing a mad party in the pit of my stomach. Like magnets, we inch closer and closer still. As my pulse throbs, he zeroes in on my lips and his eyes linger there.
I’ve imagined this moment so many times without ever really believing I’d get to experience it. Now that I’m here, seconds away from my first real kiss, I’m terrified of the strength of my emotion. I never knew it could be like this. That I could feel such a strong connection to a boy; that my body could tremble with such intense desire. And our lips haven’t even met yet.
We are a hairsbreadth from one another. I bridge the final distance and close my eyes. His fingers brush my lips and I’m tingly all over. Reopening my eyes, I see the adoration glistening in his gaze. For me.
“Ala beatra.” The words roll seductively and respectfully off his tongue.
I’ve no idea what it means, or what language he’s speaking, but it sounds beautiful.
And like a form of worship.
Though it’s possible I’m deluding myself.
He closes his eyes and presses his mouth to mine. His touch is feather soft and it unravels me. I kiss him back equally gently and he moans softly. His lips exert more pressure as he draws me in flush with his solid chest. I’ve never felt this much emotion before. It’s almost too much, but at the same time, not enough.
Gaining in confidence, I encircle my arms around his neck and melt into him, savoring the feel of his body as it presses against mine. Angling his head, he extends the kiss, and it grows in intensity and fire. I’m matching him, kiss for kiss, and my need for him is reaching an all-time high. I can’t get enough of him. He is everywhere, and yet I need more.

She’s ready to shake off the grief of losing the people who meant the most to her and to start feeling again. What she doesn’t expect is to find a man who sets all her senses on fire. When the pieces seem to be nearly in place for a bright future, everything falls apart.

Will Quinn’s love be bright enough to cut through the darkness of Ewan’s past?

Excerpt

Quinn slowly ran her hand through his black hair. It was as soft and silky as she’d imagined. His eyes opened, and he studied her as she let his strands slide between her fingers. She rounded her hand to the back of his head.
“I wish you wouldn’t do that.” His deep voice rolled through her like a warm ocean wave. It was one of those statements where you said one thing but you meant the opposite. She lightly stroked the back of his neck, her touch moving along his taut muscles.
“Quinn, stop.”
Her eyes shot up to his face, and she quickly drew her hand away. She had been tracing her fingers along his neck and shoulders like he was a shiny new sports car. The memory of how she’d felt when that awful guy had run his unwanted fingers along her butt flashed in her head, and she immediately felt ashamed.
“I’m sorry.”
He looked thoughtfully at her. As if he read her thoughts, he replied, “If you keep touching me, then things are going to escalate.” He inhaled deeply and steadied his gaze on her. “I want you. God help me, I want you badly.”
Quinn’s heart leapt into her throat. He briefly touched her cheek with his fingertips. Her pulse pounded at the way his eyes drew her in like he had some sort of gravitational pull. The way her skin heated under his touch.
Questions started flooding her head as she watched him study her face.
Was she ready for this? Could she be with him?
There was no denying that she wanted him. She hadn’t realized it until now. She yearned for him so much that her legs were shaking. She had no idea when her feelings for him had gone from annoyed disapproval to all-consuming desire, but she didn’t really care. Even when he was acting like an ass, she had to admit he was gorgeous. Add that to the memory of his mouth and hands on her, and she knew that things might have already tipped past the point of no return.
It had been a long time since she’d slept with anyone. And at that moment, she realized that she didn’t want anything more than for him to pick her up and carry her to his bed.
Just as she was about to lean into him, he let his hand drop. “Come on. I’ll walk you home.”
Momentarily speechless, she watched him walk to the front door and pull it open. He looked back at her expectantly.
She blinked at him. She was an intelligent woman. She had graduated in the top ten percent of her high school class and magna cum laude in college. She considered her common sense relatively adequate. Yet she was having trouble wrapping her mind around what was happening.
“I thought—” She stopped, blinked in confusion, and tried again. “You said—”
He gently shut the door and shook his head.
“You thought since I said I wanted you that we’d fuck?”
She winced at his crudeness and at the hint of amusement in his voice.
He exhaled slowly. “Believe me when I say that it’s probably for the best that we stopped when we did. I’m not right for you.”
“Why not?”
“You’ll have to trust me on that.”
She frowned at him. “Why don’t I get to decide what’s right for me?”
He shook his head. “I could never give you what you want.”
“That’s awfully presumptuous of you, isn’t it? What makes you so sure you know what I want?”
He approached her slowly, his head tilted to the side as he regarded her. “Because I know your type. You’ll be fine with fucking for a while. But eventually you’ll want more. A commitment. A promise. Something that would tie us together. I don’t do commitments, I don’t make promises I don’t intend to keep, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let any woman tie me down.”
She stared at him with her mouth open. She wanted to call him a coward. Tell him he was an ass. How dare he be so arrogant as to think he knew anything about her type? About what she wanted?
What she wanted was for people to stop telling her what was best for her. For the past year, people had been telling her what to do and how to feel. She was sick of it.
She tilted her chin up and stepped around him before yanking the door open.
She paused and looked back. “Suit yourself. Your loss.”
Then she walked out and slammed the door behind her.

Excerpt:
“You scared me, lady. Some sentry I am, eh?”
Sentry: someone who guards. “Did you sit out here all night?”
Darby yawned again. “Most of today, too. You slept for thirty hours, Josette.” He pulled away from me as though he didn’t like my closeness.
He was evil, the enemy of my Destiny, so I leaned to within a handbreadth of his nose to annoy him. “You destroyed my clothes?”
“Out of my face, woman.” He gently pushed me back. I lacked the strength to resist. “One of the nurses put your clothes in the hall closet so she wouldn’t wake you.” He pointed.
I stood carefully, determined to show no pain. If I moved slowly enough, my dizziness merely growled instead of baring fangs and lunging at my throat.
Darby looked at me in wonder. Creases wrinkled the corners of his mouth as he smiled. The creases were…dimples? Yes, dimples. How could an enemy have a face so appealing that my belly—though not my brain—felt warm and trusting? I turned, slowly of course, toward where he’d pointed.
“Uh, Josette. Your hospital gown is open at the back.”
That observation didn’t seem to require a response. I staggered five baby steps. Upon reaching the closet, I leaned against the wall as my head zoomed in wild circles, turning up into down and down into sideways.
“Jesus,” he muttered.
The deity’s name by itself imparted no information, and in any case it wasn’t as important as getting dressed so I’d be like everyone else. The closet door had a round, fist-sized thingy at waist height. My mind didn’t supply a name. When I grasped it, it wiggled, and when I turned it, the door opened. Doorknob, my mind belatedly explained.
My clothes hung inside, but my guns were gone. My packsack sat on the floor—minus, I already knew, my ten-thousand dollars.
Darby’s footsteps hurried toward me. “Wait, Josette,” he said in a rush. “I’ll help you to your room and bring the clothes to you.”
But I was already untying the bow at the back of my neck. As he reached me, my hospital gown fluttered to the carpet.

Edward HoornaertAbout the Author:
What kind of guy writes romance? A guy who married his high school sweetheart a week after graduation and still lives the HEA decades later. A guy who’s a certifiable Harlequin hero—he inspired Vicki Lewis Thompson’s Rita Award finalist Mr. Valentine, which is dedicated to him.

Ed started out writing contemporary romances for Silhouette Books, but these days he concentrates on science fiction romance. He’s been a teacher, principal, technical writer, salesman, janitor, and symphonic oboist. He and wife Judi live in Tucson, Arizona. They have three sons, a daughter, a mutt, and the galaxy’s most adorable grandson.
