I was trained to become an ultimate killing machine. But unlike machines, I have no off switch.

I want revenge and I’m thirsty for blood.

I will hunt down Ryuu and his organization of assassins one by one in order to quench the thirst. Starting with the man I despise the most: Caleb Spencer.

Caleb will suffer and die, by my hand, a slow and tortuous death.

But first, I need to find a way to escape from enemy territory and the many guns pointed at my head.

excerpt

Prologue:

I knew it was a bad idea from the beginning, an idea that would most likely lead to our deaths, but I went along with it. Because why? Because Grady Tanner of course. I have met nobody else like him before. I’ve never cared for anyone else but him before. These stupid things that normal humans call feelings have transformed me from the merciless killing monster I once was to somebody I almost don’t recognize. No matter how much I despise the idea, I’m unable to stop the way Grady makes me feel, and because of that, we are now currently being held at gun point by my father’s biggest rival and worst enemy, and the man whose son I murdered in cold blood. Mikhail Sokolov.

Starting over…again

It seems a lifetime ago that Brett Ackerman wanted to share his life with Ella Wales. He really believed he could put his abusive family history behind him…until he realized it would always be part of him. Then he pushed her away. Hard.

Now Ella’s back as part of the High Risk Team at The Lemonade Stand, the unique women’s shelter Brett founded. And she needs his help with a family crisis. But even now, Brett can’t admit he still loves her. Until one night of passion with Ella turns Brett into the one thing he fears the most—a father.

my review

The Good Father (Where the Secrets are safe #6)

This is the sixth book in the series and the first one I have read.

Brett had sold his dot com business and was working/ overseeing many charity organizations. His work kept him very busy. One of the organizations he is on the board with is The Lemonade Stand for abusive women.

Ella was working as a Head nurse in a neo natal unit for high risk infants. She was also part of a high risk team at the Lemonade Stand. One day a grandmother dropped off an infant in need of help. The mother finally came in, Ella of course wanted to help.

Ella and Brett use to be married and the break up was done harshly, abrupt. But because of their work interest they end of back in the same town doing work that brings them together.

I really loved this story, I loved that it shows there are help for women out there and there is also love out there, even when it is hard to realize.

I can’t wait to read the other stories in this series.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been waiting for love. I’ve watched my closest family find their perfect match, and it’s made me realize my current boyfriend is not mine. When a stranger comes to town, I’m intrigues, but not ready to give up my newfound freedom. A whirlwind of events throws us into each other’s path where I eventually discover I’m the teacher of his youngest sister. Concerned about her reading, I take on the role to mentor her. Soon, I learn a lesson or two from big brother, Leon Ramirez. In a push and pull, we struggle as we each have demons in our past. A smart girl would never stay in a bad relationshiop, right? A gang member could never want more from this life. Stereotypes remain false words. As I learn to fight for love, I find that words do matter. Sometimes they can hurt more than sticks and stones.

Sight Words (Sensations Collection, #5)

by L.B. Dunbar

My first thought when I started reading Sight Words was complicated, yes the relationship between Tricia Carter and Leon Ramirez is complicated.

This is the end of a series, I have not read any of the other books, I plan on reading them but I had no problems understanding this book.

Tricia lives in a small Michigan town, a school teacher. She has an ex-boyfriend, who definitely isn’t good enough for her.

Her classroom overlooks the basketball court, were lately a tall good looking man plays every morning. Tricia really enjoyed watching him play.

Leon Ramirez moves from Chicago to a small town in Michigan. He brought with him his two younger sisters. His parents are in Mexico, and he is there hiding out and taking care of his sisters, or try to take care of his sisters. He plays basketball every morning after dropping his sister off at school.

Well I personally think it is fate that Tricia and Leon meet, not in the best of circumstances but so perfect and complicated.

There is so much in this story, why is Leon there and why is he hiding out there? And what is Tricia story? I mean everyone has one. And this one is complicated but so worth reading. I really hope you enjoy reading this book as I did.

I would say I loved this complicated romantic series. This book is great and I can’t wait to read the previous stories.

excerpt

My head was starting to throb, which made me feel sick to my stomach. I’d forgotten my glasses and the morning was dragging on. It wasn’t even eight a.m. yet. Thoughts of Leon Ramirez had me tied up in knots. I couldn’t think straight and I felt the onset of a major migraine coming.

“What’s wrong with you?” Mia whispered next to me at the morning faculty meeting. We were in the library and we sat at the table farthest to the back, as usual.

“Nothing.”

“Bullshit. How’s the hot daddy-brother turned janitor-basketball coach?”

“What?” I choked. My friend made no sense.

“Oh, you know what I mean. How’s the Latin Lover?” she rolled the last two words to sound exotic and I choked on a giggle.

“Oh. My. God. You’ve lost your mind,” I whispered as I shifted my eyes to see if others were watching us. I reached for the post-it notes in front of me.

“By the looks of it, you have. What’s he done to you?” I glanced at Mia to see her squinting at me.

“Nothing.” I nervously began to doodle on the bright green pad of paper before me. The principal was droning on about state testing. I couldn’t concentrate. I aimlessly drew an L.

“Oh…I get it. That’s the point, isn’t it?” Her face broke into a large grin.

“Mia!

“No really, what is going on? I think you stay late just to see him, but you said he’s been ignoring you. I don’t know why you’re interested. You said you told him off the other night.” She paused and I continued to creatively draw on E next on the green square. Mia didn’t know what actually happened. How once again I’d hoped he’d kiss me. And once again he didn’t. I was making a fool of myself. I was acting like a middle-schooler with a crush.

“He’s too young for you, you say? Hello. Have you seen his body? With a body like that I’d overlook the age difference.”

“Mia, please,” I sighed. I didn’t even know why we were having this conversation. “Besides his age, he’s also leaving. He’s practically counting the days until he can go home.” The pen I held had a mind of its own. I gracefully made a circle: an O.

“So? That sounds perfect. Look, you don’t need another long-term serious relationship. You need a little fun. Excitement.” She shimmied in her seat when she said the last word and lifted one red eyebrow, then the other, in a dance. I giggled, but it made the slow ache in my head pinch.

“Mia,” I groaned softly.

“I’m serious. Give in to him. Or go after him. Or whatever you want to call it, with him.”

“I’m not going to anything with him. You should have seen Amaryllis that other night. It was like she caught Santa Claus making out with her mom.” I finished my artwork with an N.

“Did you kiss him? How could you not tell me?” Mia’s tone was mock horror, but she was also serious. “I bet he was good. Those lips. Mmmm. He was delicious, wasn’t he?”

“Mia,” I shushed her. “We almost did. I think. I don’t know. He leaned in, and I…oh never mind. Anyway, Amaryllis interrupted us. Or stopped it… or whatever… Her face was horrified. It would be too weird to date someone related to a student.” My voice was raspy as I tried to keep it low. The thought of Leon’s lips on mine was too much. Mia was right, they did look delicious. I wanted a dangerous taste of him. I had switched to doodling hearts and arrows around the letters I had scrolled on the post-it note before me.

“We aren’t talking about dating. We’re talking about…” Mia giggled.

“Okay. I get it!” I said too loudly. Mia placed her hand over mine to still the pen. She took it from me and drew arrows to rearrange the letters of L E O N. I looked at her in question.

“You don’t see it? And you call yourself a language arts teacher. I’ll use my math handwriting.” She wrote under the name. L O N E, then added an A before it.

I took the pen back and scribbled out the A. I traced heavily over the second two lines in the N, forcing it to look like a V.

L O V E.

I sighed as I realized what I’d done. Yep, definitely a schoolgirl crush. I yanked the paper off the pad and crumpled it into a small ball. Mia laughed softly next to me as the principal called for everyone’s attention to his PowerPoint. I definitely wasn’t going to make it through the day.

Love is ugly and secrets will destroy you.

KAT

I don’t beg.
I don’t cry.
And I don’t give second chances.

Ream, the lead guitarist of the rock band Tear Asunder, deserves a gold medal for best dick move ever when he ran the moment he discovered my secret after two days of hot sex. Then he brings some chick to my coming home party from the hospital—after being shot.
I hate him.

Until …

Ream’s six foot two frame unfolds out of the car after being gone on tour for eight months. I stared. And in my defense, any girl would stare. It would almost be rude not to because Ream was the type of guy who stood out. Not because he was loud and obnoxious. No, it was because he was the complete opposite. Subtle and dangerously quiet. If he spoke, you’d better hope he liked you because otherwise you’d be falling at his feet begging for mercy. Except me … I don’t beg—ever.
But when our eyes locked, it was Ream’s steady confidence that had my nerves shooting off like jet sprinklers.

Then…

Ream told me he didn’t need a second chance because he was still working on his first.

REAM

Sex is ugly. It’s using someone for your own narcissistic pleasure. I did it, but hated it—until her. She was un*****expected. Then I had to wreck our beginning with my screwed up past. I don’t deserve her, but I’m selfish and I’m taking her anyway. This is who I am and it’s too late to change me.

With No Regrets by Julie N. Ford

Living With No Regrets Is Harder Than It Seems

Finley isn’t exactly sure when her life began to feel unfamiliar. She suspects the transformation started long before she caught her husband and fellow garden club member doing the white-trash-two-step on her new Bernhardt sofa. Now free from the shackles of a loveless marriage, and with her children off to college, she’s finally able to go searching for the missing pieces of her heart.

Finley’s best friend, Cathyanne, is already working hard to ensure that Finley finds true love this time around. But when Finley is unwittingly tossed into the arms of two men—their sexy trainer and her neighbor, a popular country star—Cathyanne fears finding the right guy will be more complicated than she ever could have imagined.

For Finley, building a new life feels as impossible as flying a paper airplane to the moon. But maybe, just maybe, with the right help, she will find her whole heart—even if it’s in the very last place she thinks to look.

Excerpt
Fastening the last few buttons on an old pair of coveralls she’d found in what had once been the bedroom, Finley tucked a couple of threadbare towels and another pair of coveralls for Josh under her arm and made her way out into the main room. As she rounded the corner, she caught sight of Josh hovering over the beginnings of a roaring fire. He’d removed his flannel shirt along with the long-sleeved T-shirt he’d been wearing underneath, and had hung them on a couple of pegs to dry. With one arm resting on the mantle, he had the thumb of the other hand hooked in the front pocket of his jeans. The waistband sat low on his hips giving her a peek at the briefs he wore underneath. Apparently Jockey was his underclothing of choice. Something in her chest stuttered, pinged, stuttered, and then turned over again, this time settling into a metrical purring. Her eyes traveled from his jeans up, and on to the hills and valleys of his abs and chest. Baked to a perfect honey brown, his moist skin gleamed in the firelight, his perfectly toned muscles dancing with the flame.
Tearing her eyes from his chest, she took in the strong angles of his face, his serious gaze watching the fire as if anticipating an answer he’d been waiting a lifetime to hear.
“What are you thinking about?” she asked.
Josh’s head whipped up like he’d forgotten she was there. A slow smile dragged up one side of his mouth. “You, and how . . .”—he surveyed her baggy coveralls, his eyes lighting on the name-patch that read, Finnie—“and how sexy you look in even the most unflattering outfit I’m pretty sure I’ve ever seen on a woman before.”
Finley crossed over to him, a swarm of bees, butterflies, and pretty much anything else with tiny, fluttering wings, filling her chest. “You’re an impossible flirt, but thank you,” she said with a touch of false modesty. “I’ve got a pair for you too.” She held out the coveralls and towels.
Josh kept his crooked grin aimed at her while he eased the towels and dry clothes from her hands. She tried not to drool as the muscles of his arms and shoulders tightened and rolled under his skin. “Thanks,” he said, his gaze taking a quick side-trip from hers to look over her offering. Breezing over the patch, his eyes then made a quick U-turn to fixate momentarily on the name. He looked back to her under a questioning brow. “Roy?”
Finley’s focus drifted off-center from his. “They’ll likely be too long and a mite tight in the shoulders, but at least they’re dry, and you won’t freeze.” She offered him a sheepish smile. “I think the temperature has dropped about ten degrees since the storm hit. At this rate, we could have snow again by morning.”
Tossing the coveralls to the hearth, Josh then shook open one of the towels. “I bet I can come up with a way of keeping warm that doesn’t include me wearing your ex-husband’s hand-me-downs,” he said as he wiped the towel over his chest and shoulders.
Finley shifted her gaze from the heady look he was giving her. All of a sudden, instead of gently beating, those tiny wings in her chest felt as if they were desperate to escape a cage that had grown much too small. “I’m sure you can, but . . .”
Taking an end of the towel in each hand, Josh horseshoed it around his neck. “But?” he repeated.

Praise for With No Regrets

“The imagery is beautiful, the romance very well done and realistic.” Rachel Ann Nunes.

Finley is a spunky and snarky Southern woman with a lot of sass! The romance is swoon-worthy and satisfying. And underneath it all, it’s got a great message. Definitely worth a read!

Anna Blake has lived her life by one simple rule; never get attached. At least she did, until her life was completely turned upside down by a man that not only consumed her, but literally brought her to her knees.
Bentley Reed….

For the first time, Anna finally feels like there is more to life than heartbreak and disappointment. Bentley has shown her a world where anything is possible. A world where dreams really do come true and true love, the kind that takes your breath away, actually exists.

But in real life, nothing this perfect lasts forever. Just when things seem like they couldn’t get any better, tragedy strikes, leaving Anna to face one of the hardest things she has ever had to endure.

It’s easy to love someone at their best. The true test is loving someone when they aren’t.

Can Bentley be the man Anna needs when it all falls apart? Or will Anna learn once and for all that the man she loves is not capable of loving her the way she needs?

Passionate, emotional, gripping. You and I Forever is the third and final installment in the irresistibly addicting You and I Series.

excerpt

Stepping up behind Bentley, I wrap my arms around his waist and pull him a couple of steps away from the stove before spinning him towards me. He laughs from deep in his chest when I take his arms and start flapping them wildly with the music, giving him no choice but to dance like an idiot with me in the middle of the kitchen.

Taking his hand, I hold it up and twirl myself under his arm before stepping back into him. He smiles down at me with so much adoration that for a moment, I nearly lose my breath. Trying not to let him distract me, I pull back again and twirl a couple more times, my arms flying through the air.

I don’t care what I look like. I don’t care that my movements are crazy and wild because right now, that’s exactly how I feel. I feel free, like all the weight that has sat so heavily on me simply does not exist in my perfect little world here with Bentley.

Here, it is just us. Just me and him and nothing else matters. Nothing but this. The music blaring around us, the look in his eyes as he watches me dance like a crazy person and twirl around the kitchen. Grabbing his hand, I make him spin me again before moving his hand to the small of my back in a dip.

I lean back slowly, making sure he has a hold of me before letting my arms fall above my head and my body to go limp in his arms. He lets me dangle there for a few moments before slowly pulling me back up.

The moment my body becomes flush with his, I can see the hunger in his eyes. I can feel the change, the sexual tension that always surrounds us taking a front seat to anything else going on. Dropping his face to mine, he takes my lips on a slow heated kiss that makes my body melt into his touch.

Bentley Reed has total power over my body and he is one hundred percent aware of this fact. He can bend and mold me to his will and I am more than prepared to let him lead. That’s the beautiful thing about my relationship with him, for the first time in my life, I am not afraid to give someone else control. I can let myself go and know, without a doubt, that he will always make sure I land exactly where I am meant to.
