Moon Mail and Star Kisses

Moon Mail and Star Kisses by Amanda Salisbury

In Moon Mail and Star Kisses, a loving adult and child must be separated for a little while. The adult promises the child to send greetings and kisses through the night sky, shared no matter the distance of place or time apart. The moon, the stars, and a person’s love are bright and constant even when they cannot be seen.

my review

What a cute story. This story  is like a poem, I love reading it and they way it sounds. The illustrations are awesome, vibrant and alive.  I love the fact that you can tell your child when you or another family member is away to send moon mail and Star kisses.

Helps them to know that their love one is going to return.

The other thing I thought of when reading this story, was when my son died, it would have been great to have this book for my younger children so they can send him Moon Mail and Star Kisses and know someday we will all be together again.

I give this story 5 Stars, it is an awesome children’s book and since my kids are grown I am going to teach my grandchildren this idea and share the book with them.

excerpt

I got another last minute call today. I have to say, I’m really apprehensive with how the last one went. I’m being reassured by Boss that everything will be fine. But he said that last time too. So I’m not too inclined to listen to him.

And when Boss follows me into the room again, my fear skyrockets. I drop everything I have inside the door and cross my arms over my chest. My favorite defense mechanism.

“What’s on the list of requirements this time?” I know I sound snippy. I don’t even care at this point.

“Well, I’m here to teach you a lesson tonight.” His eyes go cold. I’ve only ever seen that happen a few times. Shit is about to hit the fan.

I know better than to speak unless spoken to him when he like this. It took trial and error for me to figure this out.

“I need you to strip and sit in this chair.” He’s pulling the chair that usually sits in the corner directly in front of the bed. So, doing as I’m told, I start taking off all my clothes and throwing them into a pile off to the side. I’m surprised when he leaves the room, and comes back in with Kameryn. I’m even more surprised to see that she has tears pricking her eyes.

“Kameryn here has been playing both sides. And she didn’t think she would get caught.” He roughly grabs her arm, pushing her toward the bed. “Strip.”

“I-I’m … I’m so sorry. It won’t happen again.” Her sniveling pleas are like nails on a chalkboard as she strips.

“You’re damn right it isn’t going to happen again.” He turns his cold gaze to me.

Amnesty Excerpts

If closing my heart were as easy as closing my eyes, I’d never see again. Heaven and earth could pass away and I wouldn’t know, wouldn’t care. Instead, I open my eyes to my face filling the mirror, trying not to really look, but I do. I see my mom’s eyes, so blue they were nearly black in striking contrast to her golden hair. My dad’s sweetheart face shape, though his had a stronger jaw. I only see their faces in mine now, and maybe I’m imagining it, trying not to forget. My hand quivers before I press my finger to my lips and smooth gloss over them. Knowing my eyeliner would smear if I gave in to thinking about my parents, I distract myself to think of something else—the music blasting from the hall, the slight hum from the lights around the mirror, the smell of beer tainting the masses Reece and I burrowed through to get to the upstairs bathroom. Breathing. Think about breathing.
Reece pulls the shirt down over her head, then shakes out her hair, twisting toward me. “What do you think, Cassie?” Like always, she’s changing as soon as we get to the party, having shopped in my closet before school. The flowy blouse has three triangular cutouts along the front and more in the back, definitely putting it in the sexy category, which is why I own it and not Reece. Her mom would have a breakdown if she saw the clothes her daughter really likes to wear—and her mom thinks I’m the bad influence. The royal blue makes Reece’s eye color pop and her face more vibrant—natural beauty the rest of us work hard to fake.
“Amazing, which is what I told you when you talked me into buying it.”
“Trade you for my riding boots.” She’s already sitting on the toilet lid, pulling them off.
“Deal.” I sit on the side of the tub and kick off my ankle boots. “Remember when we had friendship bracelets in seventh grade?”
“Yeah. Now we have friendship boots.” Stepping her heel into the second boot she asks, “Is Hugh coming?”
“Don’t know.” Don’t want to see him since he dumped me today.” My hand drifts to my stomach, but as soon as I notice I pull it away, not sure where to put it. I’m not telling Reece until the morning—why ruin the evening for both of us? My plan is to party tonight and sort it out tomorrow.
Reece steps to my side, looking at my eyes in the mirror. “Why don’t you know?”
“I just don’t. He messed up. Or I blew it. Who cares—we aren’t talking anymore—it’s over.” Thinking if I begin digging through my purse, maybe she’ll drop it, I pull my bag into the sink and rummage around.
“Like you broke up?” Her face looks sad, devastated, as if my breakup with Hugh would be as traumatic as a breakup between her and Korbin. “Maybe you’ll get back together tonight.”
My face makes a grimace before I can stop it. “So not happening. We weren’t all lovey, like some couple I know. I barely liked him.” Reece begins to open her mouth. I imagine she would make some encouraging comment like, “It takes time.”
But before she speaks up, I finish, “It’s too late now.” Hoping that closes the subject, I begin straightening my shirt. I’m not ready to talk about how much of a disaster that relationship has become.
She hugs me and whispers, “It’s never too late for love.”
When I fake a gag reflex, she punches my shoulder.

What’s an alpha to do when he’s found his fated mate, but she reacts to the news by kicking him in the balls?

Gretchen Halbmond became a diehard Daddy’s girl the day her mother ran out on them both. She doesn’t believe in love and isn’t looking for it, but when her ailing father is attacked and left bloody by wolves on the wrong side of the law, she goes out in search of what she does believe in: Justice.

Sheriff Talon Garde has way too much on his plate. Humans have breached shifters’ carefully guarded privacy and are about to go public. If he can’t stop them, what happened to Gretchen’s father is going to be the least of everyone’s worries.

More importantly, despite Talon’s rep as a bad ass alpha whose growl strikes fear in the hearts of criminals, Gretchen’s scent makes him go all squishy inside. She’s THE ONE, he’s sure of it. There’s just that small matter of convincing Gretchen it’s pointless to fight fate…and surviving the way she fights it.

Standalone novel with NO cliffhanger.

NOTE: While this is book 2 of the Huntsville Pack series, all the books are completely standalone. The series does revisit favorite characters, but the plots don’t carry over from book to book, they are resolved at the end of each story.

excerpt

She gasped when she finally pieced together what she was seeing. Bones. Dozens of them, stripped clean and carefully hung in the brush with rough twine. “Umm, Talon?” She pointed to what looked like a human leg bone.

“Yeah.” He turned back to look at her. Following the direction of her gaze, he leaned down and yanked one of the bones free.

“That’s not good is it?” she asked.

“Nope,” came Talon’s short reply. “But it doesn’t change our plan.” He tossed the bone away and motioned for her to follow him. “Come on. Don’t get sidetracked.”

“He decorates his house with dead things,” she hissed at him. “You don’t think that’s a problem?”

Talon just shrugged. “These bones are so old, they don’t even smell. It’s not an immediate threat.” He turned back to look at her once again. “Or do you want to wait in the car? Is that it? You’re scared?”

Gretchen drew herself up to her full height, which didn’t accomplish much given that Talon was a good head taller than her. Still, she had her pride and he’d just insulted it. She would stand as tall as she could. “I’m not scared. I’m horrified, but not terrified. I’m not going to hide in the car either.”

Talon tapped a finger by his eye. “Then focus, Halbmond. This isn’t the time to get lost in the small details. It’s just the two of us against whatever’s going on here. We can’t afford to get distracted.” He walked on, his stride long and full of purpose. Clearly, he didn’t plan on waiting for her any more.

Gretchen hastened to catch up to him, not wanting to be left alone with Axel’s gruesome lawn ornaments. They crept around to the back of the house, same as they’d done earlier that night with the human monster hunter. This is getting to be a theme, Gretchen thought. One I would prefer to avoid. She could not wait until this was all over and she could get back into a kitchen.

“I’m going to bake a shitload of cookies and cakes when this is over,” she muttered under her breath. By her estimate, she needed to bake a few dozen cookies, a couple of layer cakes and mix some big batches of ice cream to feel normal again.

Talon heard her and gave her a puzzled look. “What are you going on about?”

“Nothing.” Her cheeks grew hot.

“We’re not planning a menu here, okay?”

“I know. It’s just…baking is my coping mechanism.” She bit her lip, worrying it back and forth.

“Bake me some brownies then, but later, okay? Until we’re done here, can we please stay on task?” he asked, his tone aggrieved. Then, his expression softening, he put a thumb on her lower lip and tugged it free from her teeth. Cupping her cheek in his hand, he ran his thumb over her mouth. “Relax, Halbmond. I got this. It’s going to be okay, all right?”

She just nodded, too embarrassed to say anything. Not to mention, the way he’d touched her had been so tender and full of kindness it had rocked her a bit. It set off the same fireworks in her system that their kisses had. Her wolf had perked up, too, very happy with attention from the alpha male she liked so much.

Blog Tour: King Arthur’s Sister in Washington’s Court by Kim Iverson Headlee #Giveaway

KASIWC_ebook_1600x2400King Arthur’s Sister in Washington’s Court by Kim Iverson Headlee

Morgan le Fay, 6th-century Queen of Gore and the only major character not killed off by Mark Twain in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, vows revenge upon the Yankee Hank Morgan. She casts a spell to take her to 1879 Connecticut so she may waylay Sir Boss before he can travel back in time to destroy her world. But the spell misses by 300 miles and 200 years, landing her in the Washington, D.C., of 2079, replete with flying limousines, hovering office buildings, virtual-reality television, and sundry other technological marvels.

Whatever is a time-displaced queen of magic and minions to do? Why, rebuild her kingdom, of course—two kingdoms, in fact: as Campaign Boss for the reelection of American President Malory Beckham Hinton, and as owner of the London Knights world-champion baseball franchise.

Written as though by the old master himself, King Arthur’s Sister in Washington’s Court by Mark Twain as channeled by Kim Iverson Headlee offers laughs, love, and a candid look at American society, popular culture, politics, baseball…and the human heart.

EXCERPT (from Chapter XXIV: A Rival Player)

“Grief? Is that how you view our relationship? Naught but grief?”

“No, of course not, but—”

“Indeed. Then how do you view it?”

He rolled his eyes. “You know how I feel about you—privately, that is. I just don’t appreciate my judgment being questioned on the job all the time. Believe it or not, Boss, I do want what’s best for the team, and I do know what the team needs; but I can’t deliver it to you under these conditions—it’s like I’m bound and gagged. I can’t operate like that. Either free me to do my job for the Knights or free me to do it elsewhere.” His gaze turned soft and sad. “Please.”

Oh, God, he used that magic word on me—me, mistress of magic, and I stood helpless to resist its effect. The rage that had built within my breast throughout his speech seeped from me like helium from a balloon, leaving the skin inflated but with no volition to rise from the floor. Quietly I said:

“Very well, Sandy Carter, if your job means more to you than I do, then you are fired.”

Again.

Alas.

Kim Iverson Headlee 1500x2237Author Biography

Kim Headlee lives on a farm in southwestern Virginia with her family, cats, goats, Great Pyrenees goat guards, and assorted wildlife. People and creatures come and go, but the cave and the 250-year-old house ruins—the latter having been occupied as recently as the mid-twentieth century—seem to be sticking around for a while yet.

Kim is a Seattle native and a direct descendent of twentieth-century Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess Anastasia, and the romantic yet tragic story of how Lydia escaped Communist Russia with the aid of her American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim’s novels. Another novel in the queue will involve her husband’s ancestor, the seventh-century proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia.

For the time being, however, Kim has plenty of work to do in creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles, and other novels under her imprint Pendragon Cove Press.
